Flying and Your Spine

Neck Problems

Long hours in the cockpit, constantly scanning instruments, leaning forward, and turning your head to check traffic can place significant stress on the neck. This often leads to stiffness, tension headaches, or reduced range of motion — all of which can make flying more tiring and uncomfortable.

Low back Stress

Sitting for extended periods in tight seats, often with vibration and limited movement, puts extra pressure on the lower back. Many pilots experience aching, stiffness, or even sharp pain that can worsen during longer flights or after repeated hours in the air.

Performance and Safety

Spinal discomfort isn’t just about pain — it can affect concentration, reaction time, and endurance in the cockpit. A tired or sore body can reduce overall performance and, in some cases, compromise safety. Keeping your spine healthy helps you stay sharp, comfortable, and at your best while flying.
